Karma Found Its Way Into My Kitchen!

I am writing to declare an official apology to my dear husband who completely failed when baking chocolate chip cookies. I dedicated an entire blog post to his failure. (You can read my shameful post here!) ;)
"I feel that I am a terrible wife for trying to humiliate you when all you wanted to do was bake some cookies for our family's late night snack. I am sorry. It was very cruel of me to laugh when you made the cookie batter incorrectly. I am sorry. It was very disrespectful to laugh even harder when you tried to microwave the cookie batter without melting the chocolate chips. I am sorry. I really should have paid attention to your feelings. It should have never even popped in my mind to post loudly about your utter shame and disregard for reading recipe directions. I am sorry. My dear husband, I  love you very much. Next time you want to bake cookies, I will be there to support you. I will eat those cookies even if they turn out burnt to a crisp! Again, I am truly sorry."
Today, Karma found its way into my kitchen! I was experimenting with zucchini and decided to make zucchini fries for the first time. I found a simple recipe online and ended up NOT following the directions. In order to bread zucchini (or anything really), you need to dip it into a liquid and roll it in a bread crumb mixture. To make a long story short, I simply combined all the ingredients in the list (JUST LIKE MY HUSBAND DID) and ruined my recipe. I ended up having to sprinkle the bread-dough mixture all over the zucchini.

It looked like this. (Not exactly breaded zucchini fries...)

Here is my advice to everyone with a spouse. Even if your spouse does something entirely idiotic, do not post about him all over the internet with the goal of humiliation. Karma will come back to bite you in the butt! You will probably make the same exact mistake in the near future.

Cheers!

Husband's First Baking Attempt: Chocolate Chip Cookies

Last night, Bill kept hinting at me to make chocolate chip cookies. He repeatedly kept saying that the only thing he needed was chocolate chip cookies. He wanted milk and cookies for a snack during our television show. I just looked at him and said sorry. It was late and I wasn't in the baking mood so  I offered him Nutella and our new chocolate peanut butter on toast. He didn't want that... SO, for the first time ever he gets up and starts rummaging throughout our cupboards and then asked me if we had all the ingredients to make the cookies. We did.

I told him again that I really didn't feel like baking tonight.
"No worries, I will do it myself!" he said.

I gave him ONE piece of advice and mentally decided that I would watch the oven bake times so we didn't have rock hard cookies. "Make sure you measure everything exactly and follow the recipe!" Previously, I gave my brother a no bake cookie recipe to use and he estimated the measurements only to create super goopy cookies!

I continued what I was doing and tried to let him be. I couldn't help but glance up occasionally and observe.

Ten minutes later he says, "Are you supposed to melt the butter?"
"Yes... at least soften it." ... pause... "Did you read the DIRECTIONS?"
He gives me a grin that meant NO.

He entirely skipped reading the directions portion and just threw all the ingredients into a bowl. No separating and mixing the solids & liquids in different bowls. No preheating the oven as directed in Step #1.

He laughs hysterically and says, "Now what do I do?"
I sigh... "I don't know, maybe you should have read the directions before you started!"

He mixed the bowl for another few minutes and is bummed that he messed up. :(  [Poor husband who doesn't know how to read directions.]

"How about you just put all the batter in the microwave so you can at least melt the butter." I didn't have any good advice for him. I was in shock that he thought he could make cookies for the first time without reading directions. In the past, he thought he could make macaroni and cheese without reading the box directions. He was wrong on that too!

So he microwaved the cookie batter in 15 second intervals for 45 seconds and finally created a batter without butter and vegetable shortening lumps. However, instead of making chocolate chip cookies, the chips had melted all together to form chocolate cookies. He looks over at me for reassurance...

"I'm sure they will turn out FINE! Just put them in the oven already." I really wish I would have taken a picture of the amount of dough he wanted to use for one cookie. It was about 5 times the size with minimal spacing between the cookies. I also wish I would have let him do everything himself. It would have been HILARIOUS to see his creation without my assistance!! Kinda bummed...

Miss A liked the batter at least.

ANYWAYS, after all that harassment & torture, he did end up creating cookies that were decently tasty! He thought they turned out too chocolatey though. I reminded him (and myself!) that it took me years to stop making stupid baking mistakes and that he just needed more practice. I was overall proud of him for his motivation and attempt at baking cookies himself!

<3 What a night.

I Won't Give Up- Jason Mraz Inspiration

Every time I listen to the song, I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz, I always think of my husband and daughter. When Bill asked me to marry him, I said yes with such a certainty and understanding of the commitment it takes. We both need to work at our marriage to keep our love growing strong and ever lasting. It's easy to fall astray every now and then but we always manage to come back together. We have fallen in love over and over again throughout the past eight years. The feelings get stronger and stronger every time and even remain surfaced. I am so blessed. Our marriage and family is my number one commitment in my life and no matter what issues come up...

I won't give up. That is easy to do these days and I refuse.

This is a very powerful song. I love it!

How To Know If You Married The Right Guy

Did you marry the right guy? How do you know?

I've only been married for five months but we dated for a total of seven years. From the first few months of dating, I knew we would end up getting married. I don't really know how I knew, I just did... Our first date was December 21, 2004. I questioned whether or not he was the right guy for me for a long time. When he asked me to marry him, I knew my answer was yes. We married February 4, 2011.

You know those butterflies that you supposedly only get to feel at the beginning of a relationship? That lustful, warm and fuzzy feeling making your special someone appear flawless and someone who could do no wrong? Well those feelings come back.

You know you married the right guy because
you keep falling in love with him over and over again

Sounds cliche but this is how I know I found the right guy. I'm writing about it now because I feel those butterflies now. I feel so passionately in love. They last for days or weeks and then they fade away again... only to come back in a month or several months later. The point is they do come back again and again. There are several other reasons I know he's the right guy for me too, (great personality, supports me, cares about me, good looks, smells good, etc) but those butterflies fluttering throughout my body are physical proof that I will be in love forever.

This does not mean our relationship is perfect. Of course we bicker constantly and have our fair share of issues, but in order to have a great relationship you need to have the worst parts too. It can be hard living with someone who annoys the hell out of you for long periods of time! ;) I don't know who bothers one another more though, him or me. In the end it all works out and I know that I love my husband very much. Without him, I would feel empty and lost. It's probably bad to give someone such power over you but like they say, it's all or nothing. <3

Mr. & Mrs. Wedding Pictures!

Now that it has almost been two months since our wedding day [February 4, 2012], I think it is time to post our beautiful pictures. Today I put all the hard copies in an album and updated our baby albums too. I feel so organized! After posting my wedding pictures online, the only thing wedding-related left to do is send out thank you cards... (Don't make me feel anymore guilty about that! I already do!! :/) I think out of all the wedding planning and wedding stuff I have done, the thank you cards are the most difficult task. We have all our cards already but just the thought of figuring out where to send one to what address makes me procrastinate... and procrastinate some more. It's not like we aren't genuinely thankful for everyone who attended our wedding and gave gifts, because we are definitely thankful! We received so many wonderful gifts and without our family and friends, our wedding would not have been as special. So while you all wait for your cards... (They are coming VERY soon!) just know we are grateful that you care so much! THANK YOU!
