Expecting a Baby Boy January 6, 2014

It is time to officially announce our big news to the world. A little baby boy is expected to join our family around January 6, 2014. I am currently 22 weeks and 3 days pregnant, more than half way through this pregnancy! We are very excited because that we get to experience the joys of raising both a daughter and a son. We get to balance out the levels of pink and blue that invade our home!

I announced my pregnancy around 9 weeks to family and friends, including acquaintances on Facebook and Twitter. Since I've had two miscarriages in the past, I was able to have an early ultrasound to ensure the baby was on track to a healthy start with a solid heart beat. Then, I had my ultrasound at 20 weeks which revealed the gender and showed a supposedly healthy baby boy. There were no signs of abnormalities with the organs, body, and overall growth measurements. I am very optimistic and happy about this baby! He is constantly wiggling around night and day, which is a definite good sign!

Next on our to do list is to exchange our baby toys (bath tub, bouncy chair, and stand up bouncer/walker) from pinks to blues/greens! I have no regrets for buying gender specific colored baby essentials for my daughter. I didn't want her to have yellow toys... I guess she wouldn't have cared but I would have!

THEN, more importantly we need to decide on a boy name!! Boy names are much harder than girls... I have at least 5 solid girl names that I love. I can hardly think of a boy name that I semi-like. It'll be awhile.

Oh and I also need to buy/rent an electric double breast pump. If I end up working 40 hour weeks shortly after the baby is born, I want to make sure that I don't screw up breastfeeding like I did with Miss A. :( It is very important to succeed in breastfeeding this time around because we are no longer "too poor" to qualify for the WIC program which gave us free formula. (Even though, we are probably worse off now thanks to $1500 in student loans/monthly. FML.)

So yay! We are having a baby boy soon! Our children will be 2.5 years apart. I think that is a pretty good age difference. Can't wait to begin our new journey!

  1. So excited for you and Bill!

Check with your insurance about the breast pump. Most insurance companies now cover them. My doctor just had to write out a prescription and we filled it at Care Linc after Summer was born.
