Therefore, my baking section of the cupboard must, AT ALL TIMES, be filled with these essential baking items.
- Flour
- Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Confectioner's Sugar
- Vanilla
- Cornstarch
- Baking Powder
- Baking Soda
- Yeast
- Unsweetened Cocoa
- Chocolate Chips
I can usually make any recipe I find online with these ingredients. Right now I am actually stocked with almonds, food coloring, sprinkles, cupcake paper holders, graham cracker crust mixes, and premixed (gross) cake mixes. I like to have extras but those items are not essentials.
I need these essential items in my refrigerator AT ALL TIMES too. These are key to making delicious meals.
- Milk
- Butter (Stick & Tub)
- Eggs
- Minced Garlic
- Onion
- Cheese
I am also obsessive about my spices. If a recipe calls for a specific spice, I want to be able to add it the meal. All of my spices are dried and store bought though, I do have chives and oregano growing in pots outside. Someday I would like to have a decent sized herb garden. First, I need to take a course or do some reading on how to cook with herbs so I can broaden my herb variety.
These are my most frequently used spices right now.
- Oregano
- Basil
- Parsley
- Crushed Red Pepper
- Cayenne Pepper
- Seasoned Salt
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Salt
- Pepper
I recommend that everyone stock their kitchens with all the ingredients listed above. It will make your lives much easier and stress-free when it comes to preparing your meals.
Are there any essential items that you think I missed?
Your list of essentials looks exactly like mine! One thing I would add is peanut butter--I'm a PB fanantic and I use it in a lot of baking :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout-out :)
You found it before I could even tag you on Twitter! Haha No problem, I love your site. I look there frequently for new recipes. =)
DeleteI always have peanut butter too but don't bake with it much... I should definitely bake something peanut buttery soon! Sounds delicious!
Can of crushed Italian tomatoes, basil and good cheese are missing! Very helpful post though. :) Love your friend blog.
ReplyDeleteBASIL! Duh.. I use that all the time too--adding it my list =) Also adding cheese! We don't eat tomatoes plain and we haven't entered the phase of making our own tomato sauces yet... We will soon though because we have several tomatoes in our garden to experiment with :)
DeleteGreat list! I may have to use this for reference next time we grocery shop! ;)
